Level B2: Can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Learning content: Students enrolling in a 40 week diploma course at inlingua can, first and foremost, expect to significantly improve their English language skills in the areas of reading, writing and speaking.
In addition, both their lexical and grammatical understanding of the language will be enhanced and refined.
In the first part of the diploma course the teacher will be concerned with identifying grammatical and lexical weaknesses. As well, in the initial stages of the course students will be introduced to and become familiar with the format of the specific exam the course is dealing with. Students will gradually become more comfortable with the various sections of the exam. This entails the teacher’s making sure that the students fully comprehend the different parts of the exam as well as instructing them in the strategies which are vital to the student’s success.
As the class draws to a close, the teacher will devote ample time to employing these exam strategies, using practice exams to increase the student’s comfort level with the format of the exam as well as to deal with any other issues which might arise.
Homework is not only encouraged but expected and potential students should be aware that a minimum of two to three hours a week of self-study is recommended for a successful performance on the exam.
